Federal Policy Office:
Voicing Concerns & Offering Solutions on the Infrastructure Bill

WE ACT and fellow members of the Environmental Justice Leadership Forum sent a letter to congressional leaders voicing our concerns about the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act and making recommendations to address those concerns in the budget reconciliation package. Core to these concerns is how the bill would solidify changes to NEPA ([link removed]) , the National Environmental Policy Act. These changes were originally made by the Trump administration to suppress public input and establish or extend categorical exclusions to the rule, which undermine its protection for environmental justice communities. Politico’s E&E News reported on our effort ([link removed]) , but if you are not a subscriber you can read the full letter here

Free Summer Movie:
Wednesday, September 8, 7:30 PM

Mark your calendar for a special summer movie event on Wednesday, September 8! We’ll be showing A Dream Deferred: The Broken Promise of New York City Public Housing, which is a documentary about the problems within NYCHA and the people fighting for better living conditions and accountability for themselves and their community. This free film screening will begin at sunset, which we expect to be around 7:30 PM, in West Harlem Piers Park (West 125th Street & the Hudson River). It’s outdoors, and there should be enough room on the lawn to be socially distant. Stay tuned for details!

The report highlights the disparities between temperatures in neighborhoods in Northern Manhattan and elsewhere in the city along with our recommendations on how to close this gap. Read the Article ([link removed])

Sonal Jessel also appeared in a New York Times article on heat inequity in New York City, explaining how extreme heat is a multiplier of other health risk factors in low-income communities and communities of color. Read the Article ([link removed])
