Last night, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick went on Fox News and wrongly blamed Black Texans for the Covid surge in the state he represents.

It’s a truly reprehensible lie. And it comes only days after Gov. Greg Abbott contracted Covid himself at an indoor, maskless political event this week.

Their actions and comments are disgusting, the height of hypocrisy, and do nothing to keep Texans safe. We need new leadership at every level in Texas, that’s where you come in.

If you can, please consider chipping in $5 or whatever you can so we can build an organizing program to support campaigns across Texas that will take the pandemic seriously and work to protect our children.

Parents have already received letters home about students and staff testing positive. They’re anxious and worried about the health of their children as new cases, hospitalizations, and fatalities spike.

Yet, Governor Abbott and Lt. Governor Patrick are blocking schools from requiring masks that would protect our children’s health. When Greg Abbott got Covid, he gets the best health care Texas has to offer—but he won’t even let parents protect their kids against Covid by requiring masks in schools. It’s the height of hypocrisy.

We need leaders in Texas who care more about the children of our state than about trying to win their GOP primary fights.
