Hey again,
A couple days ago when I reached out to you about “It Ends With Us”, our new policy plan to reimagine public safety, I mentioned the importance of leadership both from our elected representatives and from our community (aka, YOU ✨) in order to meet the urgency of this moment.
Since then, the support from congressional leadership has been overwhelming. As one of four senators who have committed to engaging with our movement’s leaders to make this plan a reality, Senator Cory Booker joined our policy team -- Zeenat, Tatiana and Bella -- live today to chat about why this plan “is a holistic proposal that tackles this uniquely American problem from all angles.”

Hey John,
If we haven’t met, I’m Max Markham, recent law school grad and Policy Director at March For Our Lives. As a young Black man carving out my place in government and law, I know what it means to fight for a seat at the table.
People look to our movement and say, “your generation gives us so much hope,” but when it comes to making actual change, we’re left out of the conversation. Gen Z represents 20% of the US population, but has 0% representation in Congress. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for young people in the US, and yet we get left out of policy roundtables. Our movement has always been about creating an image of the world we wish to inhabit. The world we deserve -- and demand -- calls for policies more bold and transformative than gun control alone.

That’s why we’re stepping up. We recognize the power our voices have in this movement, and we are stating, clearly and unequivocally, “It Ends With Us.” Today, we’re taking tangible steps toward the world we wish to inhabit by releasing a comprehensive policy agenda to reimagine public safety.
This policy agenda is rooted in our community’s calls for safety, grounded in the perspectives of gun violence survivors and their families, and bolstered by robust policy analysis and conversation. It interweaves the underlying forces we believe fuel gun violence [[link removed]] -- gun glorification, political apathy, poverty, armed supremacy and our country’s mental health crisis -- and points to specific policy priorities for our movement.
The magnitude of the issues before us requires a fierce urgency to act, and our agenda provides a roadmap for doing so. Ending gun violence means:
*
Demanding
accountability
for
the
gun
lobby.
*
Confronting
the
everyday
gun
violence
perpetrated
by
the
institutions
that
are
meant
to
“protect
and
serve”.
*
Building
a
real
democracy
that
abolishes
Jim
Crow-style
voting
laws
and
harnesses
the
voices
of
the
most
marginalized
people.
*
Making
it
harder
to
get
a
gun
than
a
driver’s
license.
*
Leveraging
the
power
of
the
presidency
to
act
now.
Political apathy and corruption have stood in the way of addressing gun violence for too long. We need leaders willing to take these bold steps to address the national gun violence epidemic and this leadership comes in two different forms.
The first lives in the power of the federal government, which has long proven its ability when there is political will. Now is the time for the President, his senior leadership, and our legislators to step up as relentless advocates for gun violence prevention.
The second is you. When I say “It Ends With Us”, I mean ALL of us. We call for a world where oppressive power structures are abandoned and community is embraced. A world where all human needs are met and the love of people is centered. But we cannot do this alone. We invite you to join us in making it a reality.
