Friend — this is happening — we have to move quickly.
Our teams are on Capitol Hill, where the House and Senate are hashing out the final version of the must-pass 2020 National Defense Authorization Act.
Here's why that matters: The House bill includes key pro-environment provisions allowing military resources to be used to prepare for the impacts of climate change AND making polluters pay for dangerous PFAS chemical contamination.
This is big. This one of the few chances we have for a major win in Congress.
Our organizers are flooding Congressional offices with calls and filling inboxes with letters. We need to make sure these pro-environment measures stay in the final NDAA bill, but resources are running low and we need your help.
A major donor has agreed to pitch in $500,000 for our work, but ONLY if 10,000 LCV members pitch in first. Anything you can afford — even if it's just $5 — is a huge help toward ramping up our organizing efforts.
The best thing you can do to help right now is make an emergency donation to LCV today.
Friend, help fight to keep these amendments in the NDAA. Please, renew your LCV membership today for just $5 and your contribution could unlock a $500,000 gift »
There's more you should know. We're in the midst of our Summer Membership Drive — one of the most important campaigns of the year for LCV. It's when we bring in the bulk of our funding to keep our work running for the rest of the year.
Right now, we're up against some of the biggest challenges we've ever faced, and that means we need a bigger LCV membership to stand with us at the frontlines of this fight for our environment.
If you're still on the fence about chipping in, here are six more reasons renewing your LCV membership is so important right now:
- Because we've just got word that the Trump administration is about to eliminate the public's right to administratively appeal permits for industrial pollution. There's still time to stop this — we need to act quickly. The new rule hasn't been proposed yet. If we can cause a storm of protest, there's still a chance to get them to back off. Your help is absolutely critical right now.
- Because LCV is suing the Trump administration. Three months ago, we won our case to block the Trump administration's plans for drilling in the Arctic Ocean and key portions of the Atlantic. The administration just filed a last-minute emergency appeal, which means we're going back to court. If we win, it means we secure permanent offshore drilling ban for huge parts of our oceans, but we need to stay on top of every new threat, procedural trick, and legal loophole that the Trump administration is exploiting and we can't do any of it without your help, friend.
- Because the 9th Circuit just gave the green light to Keystone XL. Earlier this month, a three-judge panel lifted an injunction that had blocked the Keystone XL pipeline. TransCanada, the developer on this project, has said it's too late to begin construction this year, meaning we have a short window to block this pipeline before it's too late. We need to mobilize — and fast. We've blocked Keystone XL before, and this is a fight I know we can win again. But only if we have you.
- Because THIS is our moment to get climate change on the presidential agenda. With only 10 years to solve the climate crisis, the 2020 presidential election is the last, best chance for the U.S. to confront this crisis head on. With every debate, LCV is elevating climate action in the 2020 presidential primary elections and ensuring that no candidate becomes president without an ambitious plan to address the crisis on day one. - Because a notorious climate denier was just tapped to lead the "Presidential Committee on Climate Security." This climate panel has the potential to undo the research behind nearly every climate change policy. William Happer — Trump's choice to head this so-called climate change panel — has repeatedly made offensive comments to defend his beliefs. We need to stop Happer and this panel here and now. None of this is possible if you don't step up though, friend.
- Because your membership only costs $5 right now and could unlock an additional $500,000 gift. Really, friend — and amount helps, and you can renew your membership today with a donation of just $5.
To keep our work going, we need to raise $250,000 before July 31st. If everyone reading this right now pitched in (even just $5!), we'd blow through that goal in minutes.
Friend, the best thing you can do to help right now is renew your membership for 2019. Right now it only costs $5.
Please, friend — renew your LCV membership for just $5 today »
Thanks for all you do. We'll be in touch soon with next steps.
