John,
Last week the AFT joined a coalition of concerned organizations and partners to create the Fighting for Our Vote campaign. As anti-democracy forces are working to limit voting rights, interfere with vote counting and even manipulate the outcome of elections, it’s now more important than ever for us to protect our voting rights. But we can’t do it alone.
This weekend, voting rights advocates around the country are coming together to fight back against the current assault on voting rights and access. I’ll be in Cleveland with members, and AFT Secretary-Treasurer Fedrick Ingram will be in Milwaukee. Will you join us?
Regardless of political affiliation, every voter has an unalienable right to have a voice in our democracy and a say in how we’re governed. Our voting rights must be protected. Access to voting must be protected. Early voting must be guaranteed, and the safety and health of poll workers must be protected. Any effort to limit those rights should be seen as an existential threat to that very democracy. Our responsibility now is not just to vote; it is to stand up so that everyone who is eligible can vote and every vote is counted.
