We have the corporations that fueled the opioid epidemic against the ropes.
The People’s legal team —
your team — has invested thousands of hours into three major lawsuits against opioid companies. We’re seeking to hold these companies accountable for their actions.
- This month a King County Superior Court judge ordered Johnson & Johnson to produce more than 100,000 pages of documents that the corporation has been hiding for years, including studies on using Fentanyl patches on children as young as 2.
- Last week, in our pending trial against the three largest opioid distributors, another King County Superior Court judge rejected the distributors’ attempt to avoid accountability for violations of Washington’s Consumer Protection Act. We assert these companies violated the Consumer Protection Act for more than a decade — now we can seek penalties for every violation.
- This week a member of my legal team questioned the Sackler family — who owned and ran the Oxycontin manufacturer Purdue Pharma — in bankruptcy court. The company declared bankruptcy after my office filed a lawsuit. Now, the Sackler family is seeking a lifetime legal shield in the Purdue bankruptcy proceedings. I am leading the fight against this unjust legal shield that protects the Sacklers and leaves them as billionaires.
Entire communities and thousands of families have been devastated by the opioid epidemic, which was fueled by greed and deception.
We are seeking
real accountability.
Real accountability includes,
but is not limited to, a transformative amount of money to help Washington communities respond to the opioid epidemic. That means real investments in treatment for those experiencing substance abuse disorder, and other wrap-around services, including housing.
The epidemic is one of the root causes of houselessness — and accountability for these megacorporations means contributing their part.
We put together a short survey to gauge where you stand on this issue.
Can you spend two minutes completing the questionnaire today?
