Our world is in need of healing. On August 14, Haiti experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, taking the lives of many and destroying more than 7,000 homes. On August 15, the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan – erupting the country in chaos. We hope you will join us in sending our love, condolences, and support to those impacted by these recent events. We urge you to help Haiti and Afghan refugees by taking urgent action.

Op-ed: EJ communities need rep on new T board
In a recent op-ed, community organizations – GreenRoots and Chinese Progressive Association – joined voices with the public transit champion, Rep. Adrian Madaro, to call on Governor Baker to appoint one of EJ community groups’ nominees for the seat on the new MBTA board.
Their op-ed details the recommendation of two qualified candidates to the new MBTA Board – Khalida Smalls and Rafael Mares. Both of these candidates have served to improve the quality of life for working families and MBTA riders, and are proven leaders in our communities.

ICYMI: Coalition to Protect Workers’ Rights Call for Healey to Strike Driver Ballot Question
The Coalition to Protect Workers’ Rights held a press conference on Wednesday, August 11 to showcase an opposition to the ballot measure that will allow tech giants to pay workers less than minimum wage, make no contribution to unemployment or social security, and remove app-based workers from legal protections against workplace injuries, sexual harassment, and discrimination. ACLU Massachusetts: Tell Lawmakers to Support the Work and Family Mobility Act
Driving is essential for families to take care of themselves, but Massachusetts prevents thousands of people from acquiring driver's licenses simply because of their immigration status. This is bad for those families, bad for road safety, and bad for our economy.
The Work and Family Mobility Act (H.3456/S.2289) would enable all state residents to apply for a standard driver's license, regardless of immigration status, affording thousands of Massachusetts residents the ability to drive legally and making the roads safer for all of us.

Housing is a human right!
Communities of color and low-income people who were disproportionately harmed by the COVID-19 pandemic are at the greatest risk of being evicted, but our legislators still haven’t taken action to ensure an equitable housing recovery.
We are joining our partner organization, Homes for All Massachusetts, and urging Governor Baker, President Spilka, Speaker Mariano, and members of the Legislature to take action by passing the COVID-19 Housing Equity bill (H.1434/S.891). We ask that you help push this legislation forward by making a call or sending an email to your Rep and Senator and signing on to a letter of support (for organizations and officials).
