Urgent Need for Federal Legislation to Safeguard Democracy John, Americans turned out in record numbers in 2020 to reject President Trump's divisive and hateful politics and elect President Biden. Yet, following the election, we witnessed an unprecedented attempt by a sitting President to overturn the results and hold onto power. Thanks to the work of election officials, elected leaders, and ordinary citizens to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, the effort failed. But the threat to our democracy remains. Republican lawmakers have seized on Trump's Big Lie and are using his false claims as cover to introduce hundreds of voter suppression bills in state legislatures across the country. Many have already passed. The picture is clear: The 2022 elections will be devastating setbacks for democracy, justice, sustainability, equality unless we take urgent action to protect the right to vote. That's why I joined 21 Attorneys General from across the country and signed a letter calling on Congress to do whatever it takes to pass federal legislation safeguarding our elections from voter suppression and subversion – including, if necessary, reforming the filibuster. add your nameThank you, Keith Ellisonadd your name
