What the Taliban and Woke Culture Have in Common

By: Jim Daly

The scenes coming out of Kabul, Afghanistan this past week are deeply disturbing, and on so many levels.

Recent reports suggest women and children have been attacked and killed in the aftermath of the Taliban’s return to power. One woman was gunned down for not wearing a burka.

The oppression comes in various forms.

Kansas Middle School Sings Impromptu National Anthem to Navy Veteran at Restaurant

By: Zachary Mettler

You may have heard it said that if you want to change the world, you can through one act of random kindness at a time.

Well, a group of choir students in Kansas recently took that to heart.

Fox News reports that a group of 30 choir students stopped at Pizza Street in Olathe, Kansas on their way to sing at a local senior citizen's home. At the restaurant, they spotted a Navy veteran eating lunch with his wife.

"Blackburn – who served in the U.S. Navy for six years – was in hospice at the time, but for Veterans Day he wanted to indulge in some pizza."

Choir Instructor Murray Posey noticed Blackburn's Navy hat, and then asked her students if they would sing the national anthem to him, to which they agreed.

"He was on oxygen and he stood up and took his hat off and his wife stood up," Murray Posey recounted. Then, as the students started to sing, the rest of the restaurant fell silent, and everyone rose to their feet.

Senator Cruz Stops Late-Night Push to Pass ‘Federal Government Takeover of Elections’

By: Zachary Mettler

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, recently blocked an attempt to pass a bill overhauling federal elections in the dead of night.

The "For the People Act" has been deemed H.R. 1, since it represents the first priority of congressional Democrats.

According to The Daily Wire, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., recently proposed passage of the act by unanimous consent at around 3:30 a.m. Had no senator objected, the bill would have been passed by the chamber.

"This bill would constitute a federal government takeover of elections. It would constitute a massive power grab by the Democrats. It would disenfranchise millions of Americans, and it would do precisely the opposite of its nominal title, 'For the People.' It is instead for the politicians because it entrenches politicians and ensures that the people cannot vote them out of office," Sen. Cruz said.

Afghanistan Falls to the Taliban, Leaving Christians and Women in Danger

By: Zachary Mettler

Complete with imagery not seen since 1975 and the fall of Saigon, the government of Afghanistan capitulated to the Taliban over the weekend, leaving the country in chaos.

Following a recent announcement by the U.S. that a troop withdrawal was to be concluded by August 31, Taliban fighters began to rapidly advance through the country with devastating speed.

Afghan military forces provided little resistance, resulting in almost total Taliban control of the country and causing Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to flee. On Sunday, the Taliban took over the presidential palace in Kabul. On Monday, it declared, "the war is over."

The rapidly deteriorating situation in the country caused the Pentagon to send 7,000 troops back into Afghanistan to secure Kabul's airport and evacuate U.S. citizens still on the ground.

Senators Demand Answers on IRS’s Improper Treatment of Christian Nonprofit

By: Zachary Mettler

Two U.S. Senators are demanding answers from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), after the agency improperly denied the Christian nonprofit organization Christians Engaged tax-exempt status.

As The Daily Citizen previously reported, the IRS denied Christians Engaged tax-exempt status for the strange explanation that "the Bible teachings are typically affiliated with the [Republican] party."

Christians Engaged is a nonprofit organization "that exists to educate and empower Christians to pray for our nation and elected officials, vote, and be civically engaged." The group encourages believers to pray, vote and engage in political education.

The group first applied for tax exempt status in 2019. But on May 18, 2021, IRS Exempt Organizations Director Stephen A. Martin denied their request, and said in a letter that the group "engage[s] in prohibited political campaign intervention" and "operate[s] for a substantial non-exempt private purpose and for the private interests of the [Republican] party."
