Save a life, take a test

Get tested graphic

Accessing Covid-19 testing for people with no symptoms is even easier now in Nottingham with a new mobile unit at Trinity Square. This is a prime location for anyone working in the city centre or passing through to get tested. It takes two minutes to take a rapid Covid-19 test (lateral flow) ? a simple and quick swab from the back of your throat and nose.

Regular testing is so important while we are enjoying our new freedoms, mixing with other people and being indoors more. Taking the decision to take a regular, twice-weekly Covid-19 test (even when you don?t have symptoms) gives us the confidence to do the things we enjoy without worrying that we are infecting others. The unit will be open every Thursday and Friday from next week until Friday 10 September. Testing hours will be 10am to 4.30pm each day. Results take only 30 minutes.

For further information on testing opening times and how to order tests online, please visit [link removed] [ [link removed] ]

Please remember, if you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 or have a positive rapid test, you must urgently take a PCR test ? you can simply book a test by visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test [ [link removed] ]?or by calling 119.

Support for Afghan refugees

Council House

The conflict in Afghanistan has seen thousands forced to flee their homes or risk persecution from the Taliban. In Nottingham, we?re working with the government to provide safe refuge to those who are at risk due to this crisis and will work with local organisations such as Nottingham and Notts Refugee Forum who offer practical advice, information, support and friendship. For more information on what they do, or to volunteer or donate to their cause, contact [email protected] or call 0115 960 1230.

I am pleased that the UK is among the countries who have announced that it will provide refuge to those in need and at risk, but with 5,000 Afghan nationals resettling in the UK over the next 12 months, many will be wondering how they can help those seeking refuge in the UK. Nottingham City Council is liaising with the Home Office around how we can support those in need and will be working closely with our neighbouring councils in the coming days and weeks as further details emerge. We will continue these discussions to ensure that Afghans who rebuild their lives here in Nottingham have the support they need.

Goose Fair 2021 cancelled due to Covid concerns

Goose Fair

The decision has been taken to cancel this year?s Goose Fair due to ongoing concerns and uncertainty around Covid. This decision is based on a range of issues, including Covid infection rates remaining high, vaccination uptake remaining low in the city, national guidance and advice from experts in public health and event planning. While other large events such as football matches and festivals are beginning to take place, Goose Fair is different because it traditionally attracts around half a million people over five days, constantly moving on, off and around the large but restrictive site rather than being seated.

Cancelling Goose Fair for a second year running has been a very difficult decision to make.

We know this will be disappointing for very many people but we think it?s the safest thing to do. Residents? health and public safety have to come first. Find out more [ [link removed] ]
