While most of the country was watching the Democratic presidential candidates on Tuesday night, the North Fulton Democratic Party was hosting its first Senate candidate forum here in Georgia — and Teresa shined as the candidate most qualified to take on David Perdue and win this race.

Teresa is an eighth-generation Georgian whose family comes from seven generations of poverty as sharecroppers and day laborers. She understands what unions have done to lift working people out of poverty across our state because that’s what they did for her own family.

Teresa highlighted her experience taking on airlines and chemical manufacturers in federal court for people in desperate need of justice. She spoke of being the first woman elected mayor of Columbus with 68% of the vote in a four-way race — and then winning re-election with 63% of the vote four years later.

She talked about her experience not only as mayor but as public safety director and homeland security director of Columbus, with a national security secret clearance from the Department of Defense as the chief liaison with Fort Benning.

As mayor, Teresa brought Columbus into the Top 25 Best Run Cities in America. She talked about competing for votes in every county as we have been with our campaign’s South Georgia and North Georgia tours across 28 counties.

We need to compete for votes in the rural counties where the largest employer is the public school system or the military base, where people depend on the Planned Parenthood one city over for their healthcare needs.

Friend, Teresa has won hardscrabble elections, solved the unsolvable and pulled victory from the jaws of defeat over a career fighting for justice. She’s ready to win this election — and Democrats need this seat to win back the Senate majority from Mitch McConnell.
