Hi John,
History was made today: Liz Shuler just became the first woman and the youngest person ever to be elected President of the AFL-CIO.
Liz has inspired me so many times in the nearly 10 years I have been able to work closely with her in her role as Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO. She is deeply committed to growing the labor movement, has been a leader in focusing on what organizing looks like in the future of work, and has a tremendous vision for how a strong labor movement can lead to greater justice for all. That commitment and innovative vision is reflected in her tireless support for Action Network and Action Builder, helping build the unique partnership that has been the backbone of our ability to provide next generation tools to the labor movement and bring those tools to our entire progressive movement.
Just weeks ago, she spoke at our first-ever Build Power convening, offering her vision for expanding into the next frontier of the labor movement:
“People who have never looked our way before are starting to see that the labor movement is the single most powerful counterweight that can balance the scales. To shrink inequality, we have to grow union density. And as we do, we will fuel the most powerful vehicle for progress. Power for gender equity, power for civil rights, racial justice, and to protect our democracy. I truly believe this is our moment.”

In addition to leading the largest union federation in the United States, President Shuler is also a board member of Action Network. We are so proud to see a member of the Action Network family leading the AFL-CIO, and we can’t wait to see the visionary leadership she will bring to the role.
On behalf of all of us at Action Network & Action Builder, congratulations President Shuler!
In Solidarity,
Brian Young
