Hi John, Politics is as confused and as messy as ever. But one thing that’s never been more clear - our environment needs protecting. And a strong Environment Bill is a good step to get that protection. Yesterday, the Government introduced the Bill to parliament and MPs will soon be debating it. As it stands, the bill doesn’t set the strong plastic reduction targets we need to protect our wildlife from plastic pollution. This is our chance to get historic protection, but your MP hasn’t committed to back a strong Environment Bill - can you urge them to call on the government for a strong bill that protects our natural world? Earlier this year, I helped Greenpeace carry out the largest ever survey of plastic in the UK’s inland waters. We tested for plastic in 13 rivers across the UK, and found plastic in every single one. This plastic is harming our wildlife and even finding its way into our food chain. Plastic pollution may be a hot topic in the headlines but the plastic tide isn’t going to slow down until governments take action. Plastic production is set to quadruple over the next 30 years. That’s not what the environment needs, and that’s not what our wildlife needs [3]. To protect our rivers, wildlife and natural habitats, the government must give us an Environment Bill that sets ambitious targets to radically reduce single-use plastic and restore our natural world. These targets should span over a short, medium and long timeframe, and must be legally binding and enforced by a strong, independent watchdog The Environment Bill could see historic protections put in place - can you urge your MP to back a strong a bill and make sure the government does too? Right now, climate change and the environment are in the news. There are protests in the streets calling for action - we can pile on the pressure by urging our politicians to protect the UK’s environment too. Let’s make our voices heard.
Thank you for everything you do, P.S. Here's a blog if you'd like to find out more about the Environment Bill.
