CLCV Member, If you’re not worried about the recall election, you should be. The bad news: California is in danger of replacing Governor Gavin Newsom and then having a governor who is a climate delayer at best or an extremist denier at worst because there’s not a lot of awareness of the recall. According to a UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, likely voters in the recall election are almost evenly split between keeping or recalling Governor Newsom. The good news: you don’t need to wait until Election Day, September 14 to vote NO on Recall. Ballots are being mailed to registered voters across the state ahead of the election. In fact, you might have already received yours and can vote TODAY. Elections are determined by who shows up! If you haven’t received your ballot, you can go to the Secretary of State’s website to check your voter registration, find a local vote center or official ballot drop box, or check if your county offers early in-person voting. This is a critical time where we need your help to take action and protect our climate progress. The most competitive recall candidates either have a record of working against climate action or saying they won’t act on climate. We know from last week’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report that our leaders must act fast to reduce carbon emissions and avoid the worst-case climate scenarios. With worsening wildfire seasons, heavy drought, and pollution burdening our communities, California can’t afford to go backwards. You can help the environment and keep California as a climate leader with just a few quick steps: - Vote NO on the recall.
- Turn in your ballot right away.
- Tell three of your friends to vote NO on the recall!
Together we can beat this. Please join us in keeping a climate leader in office by this Election Day, September 14. Matt Abularach-Macias Campaigns & Organizing Manager California League of Conservation Voters |
