John,

The events unfolding in Afghanistan have been difficult to watch. After two decades of war, Afghans are now facing a humanitarian and refugee crisis as the Taliban has retaken control of the country.

We're not here to debate foreign policy or how we got to this position -- our focus is on ensuring that Afghan refugees receive the help they deserve.

In the coming weeks, Afghan refugees will enter our country, many of whom risked their lives to assist our troops. We have an obligation to welcome them with open arms. But some Republicans have already made it clear that they're turning their backs on these people when they need us the most.

Last month, sixteen Republicans in Congress voted against a bill that makes it easier for Afghans who assisted the American military to relocate to our country. Trump advisor Stephen Miller urged Republicans to reject efforts to expand Special Immigrant Visas, and Fox News host Tucker Carlson accused politicians of allowing the country to be "invaded" by refugees.

In their time of crisis, we need to be there for the people of Afghanistan -- not stoking fear and hatred. We must keep the pressure on lawmakers to ensure they're doing everything in their power to help Afghan refugees and provide support as they rebuild their lives.

If you agree, add your name to call on Congress to ensure they're working to assist as many Afghan refugees as possible.
