John -- In a moment, I'm going to ask you to chip in $3 to unseat GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy. But first, let me tell you about something Democrats just did that's having a HUGE impact for the students I teach.
Yesterday marked the first day back to school in my community, and the transition has been one of both stress and great relief. It was only months ago when families were lining up at food banks because folks were out of work and kids were out of school.
One thing Democrats in Congress did to ease the burden for working families was pass the expanded child tax credit. That extra money is going a long way for school supplies and in putting food on the table.
After this credit was disbursed,
Politico reported a 24% decrease in the percent of households with children who don't have enough to eat. As you know, kids in the Central Valley struggle more than most, so this had a huge impact here.
John, how someone could know that our kids are struggling, but vote against this child tax credit is beyond comprehension.
Yet that's exactly what Kevin McCarthy did.
I often hear from kids who are facing financial challenges at home.
It's hard to hear these stories every day and not feel compelled to do something about it. It's one of the main reasons I wanted to run for office. It's shameful that McCarthy hears these stories, ignores them, and then plays political games to advance his career.
It's time for McCarthy to go, but defeating him will take a whole lot of grassroots support from across California and the rest of the country.
