American democracy is under attack right in front of us, and we’re running out of time to protect it.
Last week, the Census Bureau released new population data that will be used for redistricting this year, and Republicans are rushing to gerrymander congressional districts that tilt the odds in their favor.
Meanwhile, dozens of GOP-controlled states have passed legislation making it harder for people to vote. In Texas, law enforcement has even issued arrest warrants to compel House Democrats to return to the chamber so Republicans can pass one of the most extreme state-level voter suppression bills to date.
Yet while all this is going on, urgently-needed federal voting rights protections have stalled in the Senate, thanks to Republicans’ abuse of the Jim Crow-era filibuster.
This isn’t about partisanship. This is about one party openly subverting the cornerstones of our democracy. Time is running out, and we must do everything in our power to fight for the For the People Act.
