Afghanistan was America’s longest war. Two decades after we arrived, we
have a moral responsibility to the Afghans affected by our presence.
We must safely evacuate our allies and immediately process visas for
refugees — no more red tape and no more delays. [ [link removed] ]If you agree, sign on

Subject: Sign on to support Afghan refugees
I fully support President Biden’s decision to withdraw troops from
Afghanistan. It was clear for quite some time that even after 2,300
American lives lost, $1 trillion, 20 years of war, and many more Afghan
civilian casualties, the United States could not have averted this outcome
without an endless military presence.
I am encouraged by the efforts of the Biden administration to ensure the
safety and security of those currently in Afghanistan, but our government
needs to go farther — and work faster. The United States must do
everything we can to ensure refugees can travel to America without
bureaucratic delay, recognizing the difficulty people have in leaving
Afghanistan right now.

In the coming weeks and months, we all must participate in the needed
examination of why 20 years of war have failed. But our focus right now
must be on the human beings who are on the receiving end of this decision
to go to war and stay in Afghanistan for two decades.
We must also increase humanitarian aid to support civilians who fled to
Kabul and provincial capitals and are without shelter, food, medical
assistance, or vaccines. The heartbreaking situation confronting ordinary
Afghans after 20 years of American war requires us to act as quickly as we
can.
[ [link removed] ]So, please join me by adding your name to my call to immediately
welcome Afghan refugees to America. This needs to happen right now in
order to save lives.
