Budgets are moral documents. Meaning, our government’s true priorities and values are often reflected in the budgets our elected leaders set.
This year our government set a $700,000,000,000+ defense budget. Make no mistake: the billions we’re spending is at the expense of our social safety net.
We have the resources to fund transformative policies like Medicare for All, a Green New Deal for Cities, and housing for all. The challenge is our politicians’ willingness to fight for policies that lift up regular, everyday people rather than their wealthy donors who benefit from a bloated defense budget.
