Friend,
Last week’s report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change sent a clear message to world leaders: We cannot afford to delay climate action any longer.
We don’t have to read this report to know the truth about climate change. From record-breaking wildfires to deadly floods, disaster is already at our doorstep.
Unless our leaders quickly change course, the widespread and worsening impacts of the climate crisis will devastate our communities. Thankfully, there’s still cause for hope.
Here in the United States, Democrats in Congress are on the verge of passing one of the most significant pieces of climate legislation in our history -- but we can’t ease up just yet. Over the coming days, we must ensure not one penny of climate solutions is cut from the final budget.
Urge Congress to keep bold climate action in the final budget reconciliation package: [link removed]
With a simple majority vote, Democrats can pass a $3.5 trillion budget proposal that would:
- Implement a clean energy standard to get us to 80 percent clean electricity by 2030
- Create a new Civilian Climate Corps to train and hire thousands of young people to restore public lands and improve climate resilience for frontline communities
- Boost tax incentives to promote cleaner energy, transportation, and manufacturing
- Eliminate many tax subsidies for fossil fuel corporations and make polluters pay to clean up their messes
- Deliver 40 percent of climate investments to communities hardest hit by climate change and pollution
- Invest in retrofitting and constructing energy efficient houses, businesses, and public buildings
For the first time in years, we have a real chance to pass major climate legislation at the national level. This is our moment to make transformative change and put us on a path to 100 percent clean energy and a safer, more prosperous future. Together, we can make it happen.
Tell Congress to pass a fully-funded Civilian Climate Corps, national clean energy standard, and other climate solutions via budget reconciliation: [link removed]
