Friend,
If you’re having a hard time believing it’s already August, you’re not alone.
It’s been a busy summer at DPA. And thanks to support from our Reformers Club members, we haven’t let up on our shared fight to undo this brutal and senseless drug war.
But, Friend, we are expecting some of the biggest fights yet this fall. That’s why I’m asking you to give serious consideration to joining the Reformers Club today.
When you join the Reformers Club, you become part of a special group of committed advocates who make monthly donations to provide the critical, ongoing resources that DPA needs to fight against this horrible drug war.

So, what are we fighting for this fall?
===We are fighting to federally deschedule marijuana and to ensure that marijuana justice is done the right way with bills in each chamber of Congress (the MORE Act in the House and the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act in the Senate).
===We are fighting to urge President Biden to let expire a terrible Trump-era policy that increased the use of severe mandatory minimums for fentanyl-related substances. We are also urging him to stop ramping up harsh penalties for drugs and to pursue a public health approach instead.
===We are fighting to increase support for the Drug Policy Reform Act, a new groundbreaking bill that would decriminalize drugs at the federal level and invest in alternative health-centered approaches.
===We are fighting to pass the MEAL Act, a bill that would immediately repeal the lifetime ban on people with a past felony drug conviction from receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and/or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). The MEAL Act also supports reinstatement of SNAP assistance for those transitioning back to the community following a period of incarceration.
This agenda is ambitious, but this moment demands it. Drug possession is the most arrested offense in the country, even though drug arrests tear families apart and cause generations of trauma. And due to targeted policing and enforcement, it’s had a particularly ruthless impact on Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people.
Meanwhile, deaths from accidental overdose continue to rise with 94,000 of our friends and family members lost to overdose in 2020 alone. The drug was has done nothing to save lives and we cannot wait any longer for change. We must fight.
Friend, that’s why this movement needs people like you to join the Reformers Club. Even though 83% of American voters say the war on drugs has failed, deep-pocketed drug war zealots are dead set against change.
Your gift of as little as $5 a month helps provide DPA with the resources needed to end the criminalization of drugs and the people who use them and repair the harms caused by this disastrous drug war.
