Early this week, Pete Buttigieg defended his policy of accepting $5,600
checks from health care lobbyists, corporate executives, and otherwise
wealthy donors by saying: “...we're not going to beat Trump with pocket
change.”

He’s dead wrong. If we’re going to defeat Trump in 2020, we’re going to do
it with a popular, progressive movement where everyone is invested in a
better future for all. Political campaigns shouldn’t only care about the
voices of people who can write them massive, high-dollar checks.

that everyone has a place in this movement. Can you chip in a little bit
of ‘pocket change’ to help power our grassroots movement?

Our leaders should never devalue the investment of working-class folks in
our movements. A working mother giving $3, a truck driver in Montana
giving $10, or a retired coal miner in West Virginia giving $27 has
incredible value.

That money means a lot. And to be entrusted with it embodies a powerful
promise — a promise that we’ll use those resources to fight for policies
that build an economy that works for everyone, through Medicare for All, a
Green New Deal, or a new infrastructure plan that invests in the
communities that have been left behind.

can make a massive difference.

We’re not going to win the fight for economic justice in this country with
just corporate PAC donations and $5,600 checks. We’re going to win by
making sure everyone feels at home in this movement, by fighting for the
ideals that we hold dear, and by working together.
