We’ve come so far, but we still have so far to go |
It’s our 81st anniversary and we’re thrilled to be celebrating with you. Let’s reflect on some of what the American Diabetes Association® has accomplished in the last year:
Research In June we welcomed over 11,000 diabetes professionals from over 119 countries to the virtual 81st Scientific Sessions. Even though the meeting was virtual, so many came together to engage in the science and present groundbreaking research. Of note, many sessions focused on social determinates of health to shed light on health inequities across certain groups of people, allowing us to better treat and serve them.
Advocacy Our advocacy team worked with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to permanently remove the requirement to check your blood sugar (blood glucose) four times a day to be qualified for coverage of a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). Access to diabetes technology with proven improved outcomes is critical. Removing this barrier was a huge win for the diabetes community!
Programming We welcomed nearly 2,000 kids ages 5–17 virtually this summer for a free, at-home camp experience, ADA Imagine Camp. They were able to socialize with other kids their age who are going through the same experience as them. Joining in on the fun were their families and camp counselors who taught them how to manage their diabetes independently, how to stay active, and how to eat healthy.
You made all this possible and we’re relying on you to keep this train rolling. Right now, when you make a tax-deductible donation to the ADA, the value of your donation will DOUBLE. |

P.S. Our match campaign will last until the end of August or once we reach our campaign limit of $81,000, in honor of 81 years dedicated to fighting diabetes. |
