While speaking to supporters at a GOP fundraising event, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy decided to brag about taking back the House majority and, in his words, how hard it would be for him not to “hit” Speaker Pelosi with a gavel once he does.

 

Violence against women comes in many forms, John. But we should never grow so accustomed to it that we let words like these fall through the cracks, especially when those words are coming from one of the most powerful men in our legislature.

 

Earlier this year, 172 of my Republican colleagues in the House voted against the Violence Against Women Act. Then, 210 Republicans voted against a bill that aims to secure equal pay for women in the workforce. Republicans have taken every chance they can get to attack women, and, frankly, I'm exhausted.

 

But with every setback, I remember you. I remember the hardworking women and families in our district who trust me to represent them. I remember that you elected me to get the job done.

 

That's why I'm not backing down. My team and I are doing everything we can to keep our district blue and protect our House majority, because, John, we can't afford to hand Kevin McCarthy that gavel.

 

I have to be honest: This is going to be a tough election cycle. We're expecting to add about 40,000 new constituents with Pennsylvania's redistricting process, and we still don't have the funds we need to reach them with our message.

 

I've always been able to count on you, and that's why I'm asking for your help today. We ran the numbers, and we still need to raise $1,309 in the next 24 hours to kickstart our field operations.
