What We’re Reading
Strike! As the United Auto Workers approach a deal with GM, remembering the bold women who changed the course of a strike in 1937 <[link removed]>. In Chicago, teachers and support workers are on strike <[link removed]> for better wages, working conditions, and staffing. One element of their strike is a sign of the times, as they demand housing assistance <[link removed]> so they can continue living and teaching in Chicago.
Criminalizing Black Bodies. The most incarcerated zip code in the country <[link removed]> is a victim of racism, overpolicing, and voter suppression, not a hotbed of crime. And a profile of Bresha Meadows, a young woman who killed her sexually and physically abusive father <[link removed]> and faced years of incarceration, highlights how much is at stake for Black women in the criminal legal system.
Scams, Subterfuge, and Olympic Ambitions. If you make less than $66,000, you're eligible to file your taxes for free. TurboTax has spent 20 years <[link removed]> stopping people from doing just that, to the tune of billions of dollars in profits. Speaking of profits, an elaborate Facebook scam <[link removed]> preyed on Boomers and raked in millions...until it fell apart. And 35 years ago, Los Angeles hosted the Olympics on the promise of economic growth and equitable access to sports opportunities. What it got instead was the same thing that happens to every Olympic host <[link removed]>: debt, lies, and profits for a lucky few.

We Are Still Here
Chicanx photographer Devyn Arrey Galindo's photographic love letter <[link removed]> to her beautiful, vibrant, diverse community is a visual delight. Her vivid images capture the spirits of youth and the many shades of existence for those who feel they are "not Mexican enough for Mexico, but too Mexican for America."
