On Monday, the Judiciary Committee held a hearing on voting rights where the leader of the Justice Department's civil rights division, Kristen Clarke, testified and delivered a stark warning for our democracy: "voting rights are under pressure to an extent that has not been seen since the Civil Rights era."
Her testimony focused on increased attacks on the right to vote since the Supreme Court weakened the Voting Rights Act in 2013 — attacks that have accelerated this year as Republican legislatures across the country push voter suppression laws premised on the big lie and backed by powerful special interests.
