Village Board addresses concerns on downtown parking and takes a more aggressive stance on illegally operated ATVs

On Tuesday night, in response to increases in comments from residents and business owners, the Oswego Village Board tackled two issues in the community, illegally operated vehicles and downtown parking:

  • The board directed staff to study downtown parking and identify ways to add additional spaces. Village staff presented options near the intersection of Main and Van Buren Streets, identifying 28 potential new spaces, some of which can be added as early as this fall. Staff will continue to work with downtown businesses and study additional parking congestion and options throughout the fall.
  • The board also unanimously approved an ordinance imposing harsher consequences for illegally driven vehicles. The new ordinance is designed to improve the safety of our roadways by allowing the police department to seize and impound non-highway vehicles, such as non-street legal ATVs and dirt bikes, driven illegally on public roads. Impounded vehicles would also be subject to a $500 towing fee.
