John,
America’s children, families, and educators have persevered through two very challenging school years. As the pandemic continues to evolve, we know there are still big challenges ahead—from classroom concerns about unfinished learning and social and emotional well-being to family worries about having enough healthy food to eat and having a stable home to live in.
These obstacles remind us of the power of sticking together and supporting one another. During the past two years, I've watched students in crisis find comfort in their peers, principals and teachers pick one another up when spirits were low, and school communities rally to support students who pandemic conditions had bumped off the radar. Kids can fulfill their potential only when each of us embraces our role in creating conditions for their success. So, as the school year begins, we are ready to advocate for healthy classrooms for students and teachers, ample opportunities for quality learning, access to healthy food and safe homes and communities, and everything else children need to thrive.
Join us in telling America’s children, families, teachers, and school staff that we have their backs. Sign the open letter that lets them know that because our future depends on them, they can depend on us. With many thanks,
