How Morgan Weistling Went From Serving Himself to Serving God
|
|
Acclaimed oil painter Morgan Weistling began his love of art while sitting on his artist father’s knee. The boy was only 19 months old but was already showing talent. At age 15, he attended art school in Los Angeles. At 19, he was recruited to join the top advertising agency in Hollywood. He soon had a successful niche in the movie poster business.
Morgan admits that art was his god in those days. Acknowledging his Creator wasn’t something he took seriously until 1988 when he met a girl while substitute teaching at a design school. "She was a Christian," Morgan says, "and the only way she would go out with me was if I agreed to go to church with her.”

Miscarriage and Loss
When a friend of mine experienced stillbirth a few months after my first miscarriage, it forced me to look into the eyes of my own jealousy.
I watched (via social media) her post professional photos taken with their baby, hold a memorial service at their church and write of her freezer filled with enough meals to last them weeks. It was beautiful to see how her people rallied, but it also magnified my own lack and amplified all the things I imagined would have helped me grieve my own loss.
Seeing all that she had in her grief exposed how I felt about what I didn’t have. In short, I was jealous. |
