Hi John
I hope you and your loved ones are doing okay.
Although
we’ve been warned that a community case was a matter of when not if,
it’s still demoralising that we are experiencing an outbreak. It
definitely hits closer to home knowing that one of the cases visited
our Coromandel region.
A list of locations of interest,
including those in our region, is available on
the Ministry of Health's website. If you have been to any
of these places or have cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms, call
Healthline 0800 358 5453, your doctor or Iwi health provider. They
will tell you if you should get a COVID-19 test.
Thank you to
everyone who has had a COVID test in the past couple of days. Testing
facilities are available at many of our medical centres and at the
TCDC car park, 355 Kapanga Road,
Coromandel.
I’ve been getting a lot of queries about who is
included in the Coromandel boundary. We’ve contacted the PM’s office
for clarification. At this stage the boundary hasn’t been set, because
the whole country is in Level 4 lockdown. We should have a clearer
picture as more information comes to hand, but we should prepare
ourselves for the possibility that the lockdown and the areas affected
by restrictions could be extended. I expect we will have an update on
this tomorrow.
This lockdown is tough on everyone. Businesses
struggle, children miss school, and our elderly are isolated from
their loved ones. Unfortunately, we have no other alternative. We need
to support these measures to prevent further community
spread.
Due to Level 4 restrictions, my electorate office is
closed. However, my staff and I remain available via email at [email protected]
or by calling 0800 550 330. Please like or follow me on Facebook for
regular updates https://www.facebook.com/scottsimpsonmp
It’s
natural to be concerned, but now is a time to stay calm. Follow the
rules and advice given by the Ministry of Health. Get tested if you
have any suspected symptoms. Wear masks, wash hands, stay in your
bubble and if you have to leave home for essentials, practice social
distancing and scan QR codes. And if you haven’t been vaccinated, I
strongly encourage you to do so. Even though we are in lockdown, the
rollout is continuing and I am getting my first jab this
week.
Finally, thank you to all our essential workers who are
once again tasked with keeping us safe and providing the services we
need during lockdown. Your efforts don’t go unnoticed and are
certainly appreciated. In these uncertain times it’s your willingness
to keep going that gives us hope and a measure of
normality.
We’ve been here before. We know what to do. We will
get through this.
Stay safe and be in touch if you need
assistance.
