Hi there, friend,
I hope this note finds you well and that you are enjoying the final weeks of summer. I had a busy few weeks in DC before the August recess began. Now, I'm traveling across our district to hear from you all directly.
I recently visited the Quinault Indian Nation alongside my friend, Secretary Deb Haaland, to discuss the Biden Administration's investments in tribal communities and the threat climate change poses. Due to rising sea levels and flooding from more severe storms, coastal tribes like the Quinault Indian Nation are in the process of trying to relocate their lower village to higher ground. The federal government has a responsibility to help ensure these relocation efforts are successful.
Before getting home for the August recess, I was honored to join President Biden in the Oval Office as he signed a bill to strengthen VA medical facilities into law. I was a proud co-sponsor of this crucial legislation, and I remain committed to ensuring our nation's veterans get the care they need and so greatly deserve.
It won't be too much longer until I head back to the other Washington. Once I get there, my main priorities will be getting the infrastructure bill over the finish line, helping move the RECOMPETE Act forward, and -- as always – working to make our government work better for the people.
But before that, I have a favor to ask: We're facing a critical mid-month deadline at midnight. Will you chip in before then?
It's an honor to represent you,
Derek
