John, did you see this message from us earlier? Turns out, Republicans are planning to use their Secretaries of State to suppress voters and influence elections in their favor.
First, they tried to overturn the will of the people and steal the 2020 election for Donald Trump.
Then, far-right dark money groups started spreading extremist lies and voter suppression bills across the country!
And now, the whole Republican party is gearing up to win big in 2022 – even the supposedly non-partisan election officials.
Democratic Secretaries of State spend every day defending our rights, fighting election conspiracies in court, and keeping our democracy running despite the far-right’s best efforts.
But while they’re at work, Republican Secretaries of State have been meeting with voter suppression lobbyists to scheme about tipping the scales in preparation for 2022!
At the end of June, sixteen Republican Secretaries of State met to be briefed on “election integrity”, fighting H.R.1, mail-in and absentee ballots, drop boxes, and more. The Republican State Leadership Committee, who organized the event, flew them out to DC and put them up in a five-star hotel in exchange for meeting with corporate donors.
But the RSLC didn’t just teach those Secretaries about the latest voter suppression tactics. They also told them they were the “last line of defense for the Republican Party”.
Secretaries of State should protect election integrity and stand up for voting rights – not meet in back rooms to plot voter suppression and how to shift the balance of power. We must protect the right of the people to vote for their elected officials!
