John,
Our campaign has always been about creating a progressive, inclusive and welcoming city that works for everyone. We have made great strides to challenge the status quo and have achieved more than anyone thought we could when we started.
I wanted to share some exciting news. Today, Eric H. Holder Jr, who served as the 82nd Attorney General from 2009 to 2015 under President Obama -- and the first African American to hold the position -- has endorsed our campaign for Our Aurora Mayor.
“I’m proud to endorse Omar Montgomery in his campaign for Aurora mayor," said Eric H. Holder Jr. “America is in the midst of a battle for the future of our political process. We have a unique opportunity in Colorado to significantly impact fair representation for the next decade. Omar knows that a thorough census in 2020 will set us up for success as we push for fair redistricting in 2021.
Aurorans have an opportunity to elect a proven leader who understands that fixing our broken democracy starts with a transparent local government that ensures all communities are properly represented and heard. Omar’s track record of community leadership shows me that he’s more than ready for this responsibility, and I urge voters to make sure he’s elected in November.”
I am humbled that national leaders are paying attention and understand if we win in Aurora, we will not only make history for the city but will be a beacon nationally. But this will only happen if we can turn out every voter in a historically low turn out election.
We are short on funds for our critical Get Out the Vote fund and people are voting right now. We need to raise $5,000 by the end of the week to keep our program on track. Will you join Eric Holder in supporting the campaign with a donation of $35, $100, $250, $500 or what you can afford today?
In Solidarity,
-- Omar Montgomery
Your Candidate for Aurora Mayor
