Hi John,
The sacred right to vote is under attack in Texas and all across the nation. However, Democrats haven't stopped fighting back against these unprecedented GOP-led efforts to deny Americans their God-given right to vote.
This week, my House colleagues and I introduced the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which restores the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and puts federal oversight on states with a recent history of voter discrimination.
As a member of Congress representing one of the most diverse districts in Texas, I know exactly what is at stake if we don't restore the Voting Rights Act. Republicans will stop at nothing to rob minority voters of their voices, even going so far as to allow intimidation of voters at the ballot box. John, do you support the Democratic efforts in Congress to restore the heart of the Voting Rights Act? We need to know that America is still on our side. If you have already saved your credit card info with ActBlue, we've made it easy to donate. Click below, and your contribution will process immediately: Republican politicians are attacking the freedom to vote because they know their chances of holding power in an increasingly diverse nation are waning. Instead of actually helping people of color, the GOP has embraced a familiar "cheat-to-win" strategy, making it harder for minorities to fairly elect their candidates of choice.
John, that is why I have been advocating for voting rights legislation in Congress for so long. I am immensely proud that we will finally vote on the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act next week. As a co-chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus — and someone who had the privilege to work alongside the great voting rights foot soldier Rep. John Lewis for many years — it is the honor of my career fighting to protect your freedom to vote.
Taking a stand for Democracy,
Marc Veasey Texas's 33rd Congressional District Co-Chair, Congressional Voting Rights Caucus
Growing up in Fort Worth’s historic Como neighborhood, Marc Veasey didn’t dream about being an elected official. He just hoped that he would one day be able to make a difference in the lives of his friends and neighbors. That simple goal has taken him all the way to the halls of Congress, where he is proud to represent not only the friends and neighbors he grew up with but hundreds of thousands of diverse voices across North Texas. |
