The sacred right to vote is under attack in Texas and all across the nation. However, Democrats haven't stopped fighting back against these unprecedented GOP-led efforts to deny Americans their God-given right to vote.
This week, my House colleagues and I introduced the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which restores the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and puts federal oversight on states with a recent history of voter discrimination.
As a member of Congress representing one of the most diverse districts in Texas, I know exactly what is at stake if we don't restore the Voting Rights Act. Republicans will stop at nothing to rob minority voters of their voices, even going so far as to allow intimidation of voters at the ballot box.

Republican politicians are attacking the freedom to vote because they know their chances of holding power in an increasingly diverse nation are waning. Instead of actually helping people of color, the GOP has embraced a familiar "cheat-to-win" strategy, making it harder for minorities to fairly elect their candidates of choice.
John, that is why I have been advocating for voting rights legislation in Congress for so long. I am immensely proud that we will finally vote on the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act next week. As a co-chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus — and someone who had the privilege to work alongside the great voting rights foot soldier Rep.
