As you read this email, Tacoma is one of five places in the U.S. where Afghan refugees are arriving.
This is good news. It’s the least we can do — to accept our allies who would have faced grave danger under a Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
But there’s much more to be done to address the consequences of U.S. foreign policy.
For example, only 1% of people in low-income countries are vaccinated against Covid. Meanwhile, 9 people have become vaccine billionaires and vaccine patents still haven’t been waived.
If patents were waived, low-income countries would be able to produce vaccines much more cheaply and quickly. While the Biden administration recently announced its support of patent waivers, it is not forcing the issue through, instead allowing it to be mired in endless bureaucratic talks.
We need a humane foreign policy, and that’s what I’ll fight for in Congress. Can you support me with a quick donation now?
