John,
Our country’s seniors worked decades to earn a secure retirement — building our economy while supporting their families and communities at the same time.
Right now, about 46 million retired Americans, often those living on fixed incomes, receive Social Security payments each month, and 54 million older adults rely on Medicare benefits for health care coverage.
Together, these earned benefits make up the bedrock of retirement security in our country, with fewer and fewer being able to save for retirement. And we owe it to our seniors who’ve paid into this program over a lifetime of hard work to preserve their ability to retire with dignity.
I fought for the Affordable Care Act, which helped strengthen Medicare by making preventive care for seniors free and closing the Medicare prescription drug donut hole — but there is still more work to be done. And with the Senate’s latest proposal to expand Medicare, we are one step closer to providing dental, vision, and hearing coverage for our seniors, crucial benefits that are tough to afford out-of-pocket.
In the U.S. Senate, I will work to ensure no one goes without the hard-earned benefits they need to have a healthy, secure retirement.
That means not only working to expand and strengthen Medicare and fighting for cost-of-living adjustments so Social Security can actually support our seniors, but also fending off wrong-headed attempts by Republicans to chip away at these critical programs. So let’s show the power of grassroots support behind these crucial programs:
