Hello Fall!

I really think I can just leave this without comment, but for those of you who insist on content beyond fall porn, read on for some of the latest from the board, information on upcoming events in the Free State, and a few of our latest Mover Stories. If you can get through this email without drooling on your keyboard, you must be one of those people who has to see it to believe it, in which case I suggest you schedule a visit ASAP :)

Enjoy!

What is the Libertarian Argument that Taxation is Theft?

71182364_2138856352885770_1477991863955750912_oOne of our recent posts from Dennis Pratt, discusses the fundamental question.
"From our libertarian perspective of judging the actions of rulers just as we would judge the actions of any other human, taxation isn’t just theft: it’s extortion; it’s bullying; it’s strong-arming; it’s cruel; it’s child abuse.

And no number of fancy parchments, shiny badges, expensive pageantry, 5th-grade civics platitudes parrotted by government teachers, somber rituals, pledges of allegiance, or flyovers by F15s can change its inherent immorality."

Welcoming the Sarwark Family to New Hampshire!

69577161_10157361846487936_8522240285302849536_nNicholas Sarwark, Libertarian National Committee Chair, moved to the Queen City with his wife, Valerie, and their four young children from Arizona. He says coming to NH has been the goal for a while, “When I first signed up for the Free State Project in 2002, I knew I wanted to live in the most libertarian state in the country. It’s a great place to raise a family and it’s closer to Washington DC and the Libertarian Party National Headquarters.” Read more here.

"...You will see them at the grocery store"

72261356_10157512835506163_5126123989822865408_nBrian Nichols interviews past President Carla Gericke on what keeps New Hampshire awesome:
"In the heart of it, what keeps me here and makes me love what we're doing is the community we're building. I know [before I moved to New Hampshire] I used to have to nod along with whatever idiotic things my co-workers were mad at that day but all my friends now *get me*. We have a shared sense of ideals, values, and principals.

"One of the beautiful things about New Hampshire is that there are hundreds of little towns, each with an active town hall, where all the citizens are very participatory. You can get involved on a very, very local level, as a voluntarist. Even at the state level, there is a representative for every 3,000 citizens, so you will see them at the grocery store."

Board Update

The Board of Directors of the Free State Project are generous in contributing their time and resources to making this organization functional. We thank them for their service, and welcome Dan McGuire and Greg Moore to the fray.

danDan moved to New Hampshire in 2005 with his wife Carol for the Free State Project. Since then, they have been active in state politics, and were featured in a 2017 Inside Sources article titled "Meet the McGuires, New Hampshire's Most Interesting Political Couple". We are thrilled that the most interesting man in New Hampshire is joining our board!

greg

Greg currently serves as the State Director of Americans for Prosperity and Americans for Prosperity Foundation in New Hampshire. He has single-handedly lead a campaign to encourage sitting representatives in the State House to declare "Taxation is Theft" on the floor, and knows more about NH politics than is healthy. We can't wait to see what Greg has in store for the FSP!

Finally, it is with pride that we can announce Carla Gericke as the new Chairman of the Board. Carla served as president of the Free State Project from March 2011 to March 1, 2016, and ran PorcFest '09 and '10. She has doggedly pursued Liberty In Our Lifetime and will no doubt bring her focus, vision, and energy to the boardroom table.
