Dear Friend, |
Today, the Environmental Protection Agency announced it will ban all food uses of chlorpyrifos, listening to farmworker groups, public health advocates, its own scientists, and 50,000 Earthjustice supporters who have long called for this action. |
This concerted push overpowered the pesticide industry, which was trying to convince the EPA to ignore a federal court’s order to ban the dangerous pesticide. |
Join us in reading about this effort and sending a note of appreciation to EPA Administrator Michael Regan for upholding the founding principles of the EPA by banning chlorpyrifos. |
As we reach the end of this decade-long effort to ban chlorpyrifos, the path forward is clear: we must ban the entire class of organophosphate chemicals, of which chlorpyrifos is just one member of. Organophosphates pose many of the same threats as chlorpyrifos, and there are dozens of varieties used on a multitude of crops across the country. |
This is going to be a massive effort, as the pesticide industry nearly succeeded in talking the EPA out of banning chlorpyrifos, much less all organophosphates. The EPA will consider them one at a time, so we’re going to need to stay engaged for the long haul to make sure they are all banned as soon as possible. |
Please join us in thanking Administrator Michael Regan for banning chlorpyrifos, and urge him to begin the process to ban all organophosphates. |
