** A rainy day (at last!) and good time to for an update. Even though WY primaries are a year away, there is still a lot of activity around the state.

REDISTRICTING
Following the release of the 2020 census results, the State Corporations Committee has started redistricting discussions ([link removed]) with profound implications. State Rep Mike Yin explains: "The importance of the district lines cannot be understated. They determine how each citizen is represented in Cheyenne and which communities share a representative or may be split by district lines."

EXHIBIT A: Look no further than HD 22 which in 2010 was redrawn to include Wilson with Hoback, Bondurant, and Star Valley. "Understanding the process will help us make sure our communities are best represented by the new lines that will be drawn." Mike is hoping to schedule a town hall in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for details.

In the meantime, tomorrow, Thursday August 19, the Equality State Policy will present a panel discussion including Mike, as well as Marguerite Herman, League of Women Voters ([link removed]) , Representative Daniel Zwonitzer
([link removed]) , House Corporations Chairman - Wyoming Legislature and Ben Williams, Program Principal, Elections and Redistricting Program - National Conference of State Legislatures ([link removed]) . STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETING

A few weeks ago, Andrée Dean, Michael Yin, Ryan Sedgeley and I traveled to Saratoga for the State Central Committee meeting. My heartfelt thanks to Ryan for providing the following synopsis:

The weekend of July 30th Dems from across Wyoming gathered in Saratoga for a full day of work and celebration. Friday night the Carbon County Democrats put together a lovely reception at The Yard ([link removed]) (a music venue right above the North Platte River). It was a great opportunity for folks from around the state to casually get to know each other and find out about what is going on in Carbon County. A small group gathered later at the Snowy Mountain Brewery ([link removed]) for food and more conversation. It was an exciting time to be able to spend a whole evening talking policy and politics.

Saturday morning official business got underway at the Platte Valley Community Center ([link removed]) . The Women’s and Labor Caucuses gathered first. Next there was a fantastic training, “Acing the Interview,” which gave pointers on how to work with the media and give better interviews. This was organized and presented by Lindsey Hanlon and Nina Herbert. Some of the take aways from this training are:
------------------------------------------------------------
* Build relationships with journalists
* Don’t spam journalists with news releases
* Be truthful
* Read stories from journalists and get to know what interests them and what they write about
* When giving an interview have a thesis and three talking points that lead back to that thesis and have a call to action

** This was followed by the Executive Committee Meeting and a State Central Committee meeting. We learned that the Wyoming Dems would be getting additional funding from the DNC this year because we are in a “Red State.” This is exciting and will hopefully help us to get more candidates on ballots across the state. The goal is to find candidates to run for every seat in the upcoming election. If you think you can or want to run, it might be time!
Dinner was held at the Saratoga Hot Springs Resort ([link removed]) . The food was excellent and we were treated to several speeches from Dems from around the state and a recorded message to us from DNC Chair Jamie Harrison. After the official programming, there was of course more policy, politics, and soaking.
------------------------------------------------------------

** Mark your calendars for our Social Hour and Housing Panel on Monday, October 4th 5:30 PM at the Wort Hotel. First drink's on us!
