You might be surprised to hear from me today, but I wanted to speak to the strength, determination, and compassion Morgan will bring to the U.S. Senate in the way only a mother can.
Before I adopted her, Morgan spent nearly a year in a foster home as an infant. Since then, she's had my whole heart. Growing up, our little family struggled with nearly constant financial stress. But Morgan and her brother were so strong in the face of any hardships life threw at them.

I immigrated to Ohio from Trinidad, and became a Columbus public school teacher. Seeing my daughter win scholarships and excel throughout high school, college, and law school was a dream come true for me.
If you ask Morgan, she’ll tell you she got lucky because that’s the kind of person she is. She doesn’t think of herself, but of others. How many other kids in Columbus are driven and committed to change, but simply lack the resources and opportunities? Morgan is fighting for those kids — and that’s what our campaign is all about.
Morgan has taken all the resources and opportunities she’s had and devoted herself to fighting inequality. That’s why, at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, she worked to protect consumers from predatory lenders and even founded and led a local non-profit. And that’s why affordable healthcare, fighting the climate crisis, and fixing our criminal justice system are major parts of her campaign platform.
Never once has Morgan ever forgotten where she’s come from or what she went through, and I know she’ll spend her life fighting for a better future where every kid has the opportunities that she had.
