Dear John,

It's only been a few months since I was released from federal prison and joined The Sentencing Project's Campaign to End Life Imprisonment. Having unconditional support from my family is wonderful, but returning home is never easy. I think about the men and women I've left behind and am committed to sharing our stories and fighting to end these draconian sentences.

For my first task at The Sentencing Project, I was asked to share my story and testify before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Judiciary Committee about the legacy and harms of the War on Drugs. I urged the Committee to pass reforms that would end life sentences, end mandatory minimums, and create a sentencing review process for all individuals who have served at least 10 years in prison.

Click here to read more about my experience testifying and the two bills Congress could pass now that would reduce extreme prison sentences and expand early release opportunities from prison.
