John -- We promised you two big announcements this week, and we’re here to deliver.
Please welcome back BNC alum Morgan Harper as she runs for U.S. Senate in Ohio in 2022!
Morgan lit up the news last year when she mounted a spirited challenge for the House seat in Ohio’s 3rd district.
She has continued to organize in her community since then, and now she’s running for the U.S. Senate!
Will you help us elect a progressive senator by splitting a donation between BNC and Morgan’s campaign now? If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Morgan grew up in Columbus, OH. Born into foster care, she was later adopted by a Columbus Public Schools teacher. Her mother, an immigrant from Trinidad, supported Morgan and her brother despite constant financial stress throughout their childhood.
But, Morgan got lucky. Through financial aid she was able to attend Columbus Academy, and her future took off!
She later received more financial aid with help from the Ron Brown Scholar Program to attend Tufts (BA), Princeton (MA) and Stanford (JD). In her own words:
“I’m running for Senate to represent working people because 37 years ago, Central Ohio gave me -- a newborn with an uncertain future -- a chance to succeed.”
Morgan never took these opportunities for granted, and they fostered in her a deep commitment to fighting inequality after seeing how a child’s future can be rewritten when their community invests in them.
Through her work at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Morgan helped protect consumers against predatory lenders. Most recently at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), she’s worked to secure investments in communities that have been systemically under-resourced.
In 2020, Morgan ran for Congress to fight for an end to systemic economic segregation and to give other kids the same opportunities she had.
The Senate has become one of the most dysfunctional bodies in American government -- but we have a chance to change that.
Let’s get Morgan elected!
