ATU 689 responds to WMATA vaccine and testing requirements

"Vaccines are the most effective way to save lives during this pandemic," said Raymond Jackson, President and Business Agent for ATU Local 689 in response to WMATA vaccine & testing requirements. "I myself caught COVID and can tell you that I still live with the health consequences to this day. WMATA's proposal will still allow members to opt-out of the shot in favor of weekly testing." said Jackson. "It is still our position that testing should be paid for and provided for by the employer. We will continue negotiations with WMATA on the implementation of this policy. We also look forward to working with WMATA on enforcement of its mask mandate policy on public transit."

Today's Labor Quote: Eugene Victor Debs

"This nation ought to own and control its own industries...all things that are jointly needed and used ought to be jointly owned...industry, the basis of our social life, instead of being the private property of a few and operated for their enrichment, ought to be the common property of all, democratically administered in the interest of all."
