John,
We want to update you on the situation in Haiti — where over the course of just a few days, people have been left reeling by a deadly earthquake and a devastating tropical storm.
Rain and high winds began battering the island yesterday. And while Tropical Storm Grace is moving past the island as we write, rain is STILL falling. We don't know the full extent of damage from the storm yet — but we know our staff and project participants experienced flooding last night. What's worse, with every passing moment, the chance of grave flooding increases, as does the likelihood of more Haitians being left homeless, injured, or killed. We are also waiting to hear reports on how many animals were injured or killed — animals we know are crucial to the livelihood and wellbeing of Haitians.

But please know — the Heifer staff and volunteers in Haiti have done everything within their power the past few days to distribute critically-needed food and water to communities we work in — not to mention provide temporary shelter, like tents, to keep those families who lost everything in Saturday's earthquake safe.
And we will continue to help the hardworking families of Haiti in the days, weeks, and years to come. We are here to stay for the long haul.
If you've already donated to help the people of Haiti, I want to thank you for everything you're helping us do to keep Haitians safe during this time.

If you have not yet had a chance to give, I hope you will please take a moment to give generously now. Every penny of your donation will go directly to relief in Haiti.
Thank you, in advance, for your help during this urgent time.
Heifer International
P.S. As the full extent of Saturday's major earthquake in Haiti becomes clear, teams from Heifer Haiti are on the ground assessing the damage and needs in the communities Heifer works with.
