John — The situation unfolding in Kabul is tragic. Families surround the airport, some escaped by cramming into a massive military cargo plane, all desperate to flee a humanitarian catastrophe.
After 20 years leading the war in Afghanistan the U.S. has a moral obligation to bring Afghan women, children and families to safety immediately.
Many of the Afghan families fleeing for their lives today are in danger because one of their loved ones worked for our government, and we must do right by them by welcoming them with dignity.
We need your help to create a massive public outcry to make saving Afghan lives — by evacuating and resettling families in danger — a number one priority for the Biden Administration [[link removed]] .

More than 300,000 Afghan civilians have been affiliated with the U.S. military mission during the two decade long war in Afghanistan. But only HALF of the 34,500 authorized special immigrant visas have been granted. Some have been waiting 10 YEARS for approval.
These delays have been deadly — over 300 interpreters and their families have been murdered.
The unfolding catastrophe happening now in Kabul is the devastating result of our failure to stand with Afghans who’ve stood with us, and is emblematic of a broken asylum and immigration system that prioritizes border guards and bullets over case-workers and care for people fleeing horrific situations.
We have an obligation to protect the women, children and families seeking safety and we need to create a huge public outcry to pressure Secretary of State Blinken to take immediate action to process visas and increase air flights for the thousands of children and families fleeing the unfolding nightmare in Afghanistan. People fleeing danger deserve to be welcomed with compassion, dignity, and respect. A new asylum system is possible: we can significantly raise the refugee cap and reimagine the way our country treats people seeking safety.
The way our country responds right now is a crucible of whether we can live up to the best our country can be, and all of us can help by pushing as hard as possible for the Administration to step up at this moment.
