John:
What’s happening on the ground in Afghanistan right now is horrifying. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who has been affected by the devastation occurring across the country.
Now more than ever, the Afghan people need leaders who are willing to come to their aid. I’m proud to represent California’s 15th district and the largest Afghan-American population in the country — that’s why my team and I are doing everything we can to help get Afghan refugees to the U.S. right away.
So for anyone who may need them or for those just looking to help, I wanted to pass along some resources:
For those who have served in the U.S. forces and may qualify for a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV), information about that process can be found here.
For those that have assisted the United States in other capacities but did not meet the more strict standards for the SIV, more information about the Priority 2 designation visas can be found here.
For those seeking to begin the routine family immigrant visa process for qualifying relatives, information can be found here.
If you want to help, the best thing you can do is to support those that have made it to the U.S. and may be in need of assistance. Find local organizations in your area that are helping to resettle Afghan refugees and see how you can offer your time or resources to make their process easier.
Thank you,
Rep. Eric Swalwell
