The bottom line: If the midterms were held today, Democrats would lose the majority.

Dear MoveOn member,

In an "omen of defeat" for Democrats, new polling shows Democrats falling behind Republicans by a half-dozen points in the battleground districts that will determine who controls Congress after next year's midterm elections.1

The bottom line: If the midterms were held today, Democrats would lose the majority.2

That means that House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy—who went to Mar-a-Lago just days after the January 6 white supremacist insurrection to pledge loyalty to Donald Trump—will become speaker of the House, grinding our progressive agenda to a screeching halt and putting House Republicans, who continue to spread the Big Lie and COVID-19 vaccination misinformation, in charge of Congress.3

John, we CANNOT let the GOP extremists take over Congress. That's why MoveOn is going BIG right now to win the midterms.

We just launched a powerful $1 million TV ad campaign targeting GOP members of Congress who are up for re-election, we're preparing a series of innovative experiments that will result in a massive, evidence-based, get-out-the-vote program to turn out progressive voters, and we will be ramping up additional work in the coming months.

Will you support MoveOn's efforts to defeat the GOP in 2022 by chipping in $5 a month?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

The polling, conducted in more than four dozen congressional battleground districts and regions, was shared in a closed-door meeting with Democrats last week. It showed Democratic candidates falling behind GOP candidates by 6 points.4

In addition, the Census Bureau last week released the long-awaited results of the 2020 Census, triggering the nation's once-a-decade redistricting process in which states redraw the districts that will elect members of Congress and state legislatures.5 Republicans hold a huge advantage and will draw maps for 187 congressional districts, compared to just 75 for Democrats, with the rest drawn by independent commissions or divided state governments.6

Republicans plan to gerrymander districts in a way that disenfranchises voters of color and cements their control of Congress for the next decade.7

John, we have to fight back. We cannot sit by and watch Trump sycophants gain control of Congress and block urgent action on so many issues, from economic relief to working families to bold action on climate change. That's where MoveOn comes in.

To drive up progressive turnout and defeat the GOP, MoveOn is preparing to run an intensive series of voter contact experiments. These innovations will identify the most effective new strategies for persuading undecided voters and turning out Democratic voters who don't always show up during midterm elections.

But the fact of the matter is that most people don't even think about making political donations until a few months before an election. Indeed, most political donations flood into campaigns in the final days and weeks.

In order for our plan to work, we need people who understand the value of investing early in an election cycle, running innovative experiments, testing new strategies, and who are willing to donate now—and we're hoping that's you.

We know that next year's election seems far away, but the truth is Democrats are already falling behind in the polls, and MoveOn needs to build consistent resources early in order to have an impact. Will you chip in $5 a month to support the progressive movement and help defeat the GOP in 2022?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.
