PROJECT HOPE
We wanted to reach out to you with updates on the emergency in Haiti as the tragic news has continued...
UPDATES ON THE EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI
- A 7.2-magnitude earthquake caused widespread damage in Haiti over the weekend -- adding to a list of crises facing a country still recovering from the devastation of the 2010 earthquake. Large aftershocks have already occurred and more are expected.
- More than 1,400 deaths and 6,000 injuries have now been confirmed. We expect these numbers to continue to increase.
- Tropical Depression Grace drenched the country with over 10 inches of rain Monday and Tuesday, exhausting survivors, blocking roads with mudslides and slowing rescue efforts.
- Survivors are under threat from COVID-19 because of low vaccination rates and because displaced people are now being forced to gather at shelter sites. Hospitals are overwhelmed and health care workers and supplies are extremely scarce.

How We're Helping
Project HOPE has an emergency response team en route to Haiti to mobilize help. The initial deployment includes public health and emergency response experts, as well as clinicians.
The team, in coordination with local experts, will conduct a rapid assessment of the situation and will be prepared to offer immediate aid. We're anticipating the need for lifesaving medicines, medical supplies, hygiene kits, water purification kits, and PPE to protect health workers.
Since the 1980s, Project HOPE has worked with the people of Haiti to support maternal and child health, cholera prevention and emergency efforts after the earthquake in 2010 and Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
