I’m proud to announce that last week, my office won another victory against mental health discrimination.
Allianz Insurance, one of the largest travel insurance providers, denied hundreds of claims from Washingtonians who purchased travel insurance but were forced to cancel their flights due to mental health events. Allianz denied their claims even after Washingtonians provided documentation from mental health professionals.
Washington law is clear — insurance companies cannot discriminate on the basis of a disability, including mental health conditions. Last week, we defeated Allianz’s attempt to dismiss our case. That means we will continue our fight to stop Allianz’s illegal conduct.
Do you agree that companies like Allianz should be held accountable for their discriminatory conduct?
One couple had to cancel a trip because of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and Allianz denied their claim anyway. A Vancouver resident used his tax refund to pay for a ticket for his 9 year-old son to fly to see him. The son was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and the doctor recommended he not travel to acclimate to his medication, but Allianz refused to honor the father’s insurance claim.
As the People’s Attorney, I will stand up to corporate special interests when they discriminate against Washingtonians to pad their profits. I will always fight for the civil rights of Washingtonians.
Take our poll and let me know if you stand with me:
