This most recent melting event in Greenland was the third instance of extreme melting in the past decade, with more ice melting than the previous 40 years combined. Without serious action, the rate of ice loss will speed up.
John,
Greenland is experiencing one of the most extreme melting events ever. The country lost more than 8.5 billion tons of surface mass in one day, and 18.4 billion tons within a week.
The amount of ice melted in one day would be enough to cover the state of Florida in two inches of water [!!].
Melting ice causes multiple detrimental impacts to people and ecosystems.
Sea level rise causes increased frequency and severity of flooding in coastal locations.
White ice reflects sunlight energy back into space. Without it, our planet will warm even faster.
Melting ice changes the temperatures of oceans, forcing wildlife to migrate and causing chaos for our food supplies.
This most recent melting event in Greenland was the third instance of extreme melting in the past decade, with more ice melting than the previous 40 years combined. Without serious action, the rate of ice loss will speed up.
